Department of Electrical Engineering

The Electrical Engineering Discipline aims to provide quality education with stress on strong foundations and thorough understanding of the basic principles that underlie modern electrical and electronic technology. The discipline has qualified and experienced faculty members, along with e-learning facilities like teleconferencing, virtual classroom program and online access to all reputed international journals. With an emphasis on green technology, the discipline pursues a holistic approach in ensuring that the students are sensitive to the environmental, safety and economic context of their coursework.

The discipline is highly benefitted by the latest teaching aids and research facilities, at par with the best universities in the world. Undergraduates are given unrestricted access to laboratory equipment and encouraged to observe and participate in ongoing research being conducted within the institute by research scholars and faculty members.

Courses and Electives

The Electrical Engineering Discipline offers courses which touch upon the basics of all aspects of Electrical Engineering. Each theory course is supplemented with laboratory work and projects to familiarize students with the practical aspects of theory and to introduce them to the method of experiments.

The core courses offered by the discipline include Power Electronics, Signals and Systems, VLSI Circuit and system Design, Control systems Design, Microwave and Satellite Communication, Special Semiconductor Devices, Computer Control, Automation of Power Systems. These courses cater to the varied needs of the industry and academia. The Discipline also intends to offer interdisciplinary courses like Mechatronics, Nanotechnology, etc. in the near future.


The Electrical Engineering discipline has established a Digital Systems lab, Analog Circuits lab and Electronic Devices lab and procured software like MATLAB, Cadence EDA Tools, Silvaco TCAD Tools, Xilinx EDA Tool and System C to enhance the understanding of the corresponding theory courses.

The following research labs are established and some are under development: Power Electronics and Renewable Energy Systems Lab, Signal Analysis Lab, Semiconductor Optoelectronics and Micro/Nano-Fabrication Lab, Nanoscale Devices, VLSI/ULSI Circuit and System Design Lab, FPGA and Reconfigurable System Design Lab.

The discipline is in the process of procuring the state-of-art experimental instruments such as Ion-Beam Sputtering Deposition Unit, Scanning Electron Microscope, X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Atomic Force Microscope (AFM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Tube Furnace, Heating Oven, Sandblast Unit, Photoluminescence Setup and Four-probe Hall Measurement Unit.
